Thinking of what education might look like in the next decade, one quickly realizes that the trends in technology are leaving a large number of our students behind. We no longer live in an age of visible movement when it comes to progress and innovation. Today is an age of exponential change. New and ever-improving technologies are popping up every day and in every corner of society.

Educating the best and the brightest in this brave new world will take a new and improved educational paradigm. Allowing our educational tools to age in the corner of the classroom will be the mistake that may cost us our future. Throwing away masses of children to inequitable access will ensure that we languish at the bottom of the global pool of employable workers for decades to come.

The New Toolbox

I was at an auction a few years ago and noticed a few old woodworking tools that I thought I could use. For a few bucks, I was able to snag an assortment of hand tools that may have been in someone's toolbox for a generation or more. As the next decade passed, I used these tools in my shop for a wide variety of projects until my projects outgrew these old, dull tools. My woodworking creations continued to improve as did my skills and artistry. I quickly discovered that using improved tools would translate into improved craftsmanship. As any woodworker will tell you, new tools require new skills.

Woodworking is a great metaphor for shaping and molding students. There is simply no good substitute for a sharp tool. If you want to build the best projects possible, you need to use the best tools possible. Thinking in terms of the next decade for our country, we will be sorely disappointed in our projects if we fail to improve our tools.

Within this article, I will try to paint a picture of how technology will shape the way we educate students in the next decade. I will attempt to show the amazing possibilities that lay before us if we will simply walk through the doorway of opportunity that is open to us. My focus will be this idea: Transforming the student from being a passenger to becoming a "user." You may be wondering what I mean by this. Let me explain.

Ask yourself what it means to be a "user." A user is not simply a person who uses. For the student, being a user should involve using the latest technology in a free and autonomous manner. This new-found freedom will allow the student to become an active participant in his/her education instead of a passive passenger. No other time in history have we been so able to make this a reality.

In our current technological society, being a user also means being tracked. Tracking has become a major part of our daily lives and is precisely the engine that should drive our educational process for the foreseeable future. Tracking a student means having the ability to target education toward weaknesses and strengths. The ability to accurately customize curriculum to the individual has been the holy grail of educational philosophy for many years. This golden age of technological development may soon enable this dream to become a reality.

Current educational curriculum and individual assessment is arbitrary at best. Being able to accurately asses a student can only be achieved by using modern tracking and database technologies. The means by which we can make this a reality is readily available and only needs to be taken off the shelf to be used. If Congress is looking for a shovel-ready project, this may be the one.

Imagine a world where every child has a tablet computer with ready access to the App of virtual photographic memory (internet). Further, imagine that every student can access all the knowledge of humankind freely at any moment in time. Continue to imagine a world where a misspelled word brings up a spelling challenge application instead of an auto correction. Try to contemplate what it would mean for a teacher to have a database of every misspelled word, every misunderstood concept or every missed equation for each of their students. Try to envision a teacher with the ability to customize the experience of the individual "user" with minimal effort. Imagine the curriculum being automatically targeted to the user through an intuitive educational platform that knows every strength and each unique weakness. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

The company that makes this standard available to the educational community will be the company that shapes the future of humankind. Will it be Google, Apple, Microsoft, or some other yet unknown pioneer?

Continuing from the thoughts in my last post, I would like to elaborate on the idea of the student as a user of a new standardized educational platform. It is obvious to me that the future of education will always mirror our everyday lives in one way or another. If you examine how technology has influenced your daily life already, you begin to put together a snapshot of what it will mean to be educated in the next decade.

In the last few hundred years, most individuals would consider an education as something you receive. You often hear the question asked, "Where did you receive your education?" As we proceed through the next decade, education will slowly move away from reception and toward being custom designed for the individual user. New technology will not only allow us to receive an education, but also develop an education. The question we might ask in 10 years is, "How did you develop your education?" The question of where will still be important, but the how of the matter will be the focus that defines the individual.

To make this a reality we will need a standardized platform from which to develop a student's unique education. This standardized platform will allow us to tailor a custom curriculum that will be matched to talents, interests and life goals. For the educator, a standardized platform will create a way to assist the student in discovering a true purpose in life through a unique educational experience. The basics of reading, writing and arithmetic will not be taught as much as they will be discovered and used. Learning will become a reciprocal experience between the teacher, the student and the machine.

Under a standardized platform, each of these three participants will have a role to play. The teacher will be the facilitator, assisting the development of the curriculum and inspiring the direction the student takes. The student will be the user, gathering resources, skills and knowledge in an efficient and measured sequence. The machine will do the work of data gathering and analysis, which will assist the teacher and student in refining the curriculum. This data gathering work of the machine will also free the teacher from the burden of record-keeping and tedious tasks that currently distract from the real job of teaching and learning.

Under a standardized system, grade level will be far less important. Achievement and progression will be measured by accomplishment and intelligence as a benchmark for success. The question of failure or success will be irrelevant and replaced with a standard and consistent measurement of potential and overall intelligence. Information will no longer be missed but continually rehearsed and monitored for retention by the machine.

In our current educational paradigm, the teacher is in charge of arbitrarily constructing curriculum. This approach to curriculum development is based on inexperience in some cases, outdated materials, inadequate funding and a shortage of time. Measuring the success of a specific curriculum is currently impossible. With a standardized system, comparisons of curricular success can be made across the entire spectrum of education and then continually reformulated and enhanced by the machine.

Sadly, teachers today are bogged down with an assortment of mind-numbing tasks that would be better suited to an off-the-shelf automated system. Tasks such as data tracking, reporting and record keeping are currently accomplished manually. These tasks could easily be delegated to an intuitive database. Developing a standard to follow would eliminate these tasks and free the teacher to do their main job of teaching students.

Education 3.0

Throughout history, man has sought to pass on knowledge to the next generation. This process started with oral tradition, storytelling and writing. With the advent of the printing press, knowledge and information slowly became available to the masses. The amount of information that could be gained by one human in a lifetime was severely limited by his access to printed materials and wealth. The majority of learning was gained through observation and imitation. We can call this Education 1.0.

Education 2.0 starts around the late eighteen hundreds with universal literacy movements throughout newly industrialized regions of the world. Improvements in education slowly transitioned from apprenticeship to formal education and training. Despite our movements toward universal education, access to knowledge and opportunity continues to be inequitable throughout the world. Even with the arrival of the computer revolution, access to the tools of learning continues to define the learner.

The next decade may mark the moment in history when all men are granted equal access to the greatest treasure a soul can possess. I use the word may in the last sentence because there is the chance that we will miss this golden opportunity. Access to Education 3.0 will only be gained through investment and universal standardization. If we continue to divert wealth toward fruitless goals and corporate greed, this opportunity will be lost or hopelessly delayed.

Education 3.0, when it arrives, will be the age of universal enlightenment. Platforms for education and learning will slowly standardize and become globally accessible and affordable. The poorest to the wealthiest will have access to the machine that runs the platform.

The thought on your mind at this point is most likely wondering what machine I keep referring to. The machine in question is the one we have been so busy teaching and training since roughly 1969. You've probably guessed it by now that I am referring to the internet. The great cloud of knowledge that we call the internet is precisely the mechanism that we will use to build the platform of Education 3.0. When the platform is finally in place, the decade to follow will see the greatest amount of wealth, discoveries and use of human potential that we have witnessed during our time on this earth. The only question that remains to be answered is the point at which I will leave this article.

When will we allow the user to use the machine to its potential?

Stephen McClard has been the Director of Bands at Bolivar High School since 2002. In pursuance to the announcement of 100 days agenda of HRD of ministry by Hon'ble Human Resources development Minister, a New Policy on Distance Learning In Higher Education Sector was drafted.

BACKGROUND

1. In terms of Entry 66 of List 1 of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India, Parliament is competent to make laws for the coordination and determination of standards in institutions for higher education for research, and scientific and technical institutions. Parliament has enacted laws for discharging this responsibility through: the University Grants Commission (UGC) for general Higher Education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for Technical Education; and other Statutory bodies for other disciplines. As regards higher education, through the distance mode, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Act, 1985 was enacted with the following two prime objectives, among others: (a) To provide opportunities for higher education to a large segment of population, especially disadvantaged groups living in remote and rural areas, adults, housewives and working people; and (b) to encourage Open University and Distance Education Systems in the educational pattern of the country and to coordinate and determine the standards in such systems.

2. The history of distance learning or education through distance mode in India, goes way back when the universities started offering education through distance mode in the name of Correspondence Courses through their Directorate/School of Correspondence Education. In those days, the courses in humanities and/or in commerce were offered through correspondence and taken by those, who, owing to various reasons, including limited number of seats in regular courses, employability, problems of access to the institutions of higher learning etc., could not get themselves enrolled in the conventional `face-to-face' mode `in-class' programmes.

3. In the recent past, the demand for higher education has increased enormously throughout the country because of awareness about the significance of higher education, whereas the system of higher education could not accommodate this ever increasing demand.

4. Under the circumstances, a number of institutions including deemed universities, private universities, public (Government) universities and even other institutions, which are not empowered to award degrees, have started cashing on the situation by offering distance education programmes in a large number of disciplines, ranging from humanities to engineering and management etc., and at different levels (certificate to under-graduate and post-graduate degrees). There is always a danger that some of these institutions may become `degree mills' offering sub- standard/poor quality education, consequently eroding the credibility of degrees and other qualifications awarded through the distance mode. This calls for a far higher degree of coordination among the concerned statutory authorities, primarily, UGC, AICTE and IGNOU and its authority - the Distance Education Council (DEC).

5. Government of India had clarified its position in respect of recognition of degrees, earned through the distance mode, for employment under it vide Gazette Notification No. 44 dated 1.3.1995.

6. Despite the risks referred to in para 4 above, the significance of distance education in providing quality education and training cannot be ignored. Distance Mode of education has an important role for:

(i)providing opportunity of learning to those, who do not have direct access to face to face teaching, working persons, house-wives etc.
(ii)providing opportunity to working professionals to update their knowledge, enabling them to switchover to new disciplines and professions and enhancing their qualifications for career advancement.
(iii)exploiting the potential of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the teaching and learning process; and
(iv)achieving the target of 15% of GER by the end of 11th Plan and 20% by the end of 12th five year Plan.

7. In order to discharge the Constitutional responsibility of determination and maintenance of the standards in Higher Education, by ensuring coordination among various statutory regulatory authorities as also to ensure the promotion of open and distance education system in the country to meet the aspirations of all cross-sections of people for higher education, the following policy in respect of distance learning is laid down:

(a) In order to ensure proper coordination in regulation of standards of higher education in different disciplines through various modes [i.e. face to face and distance] as also to ensure credibility of degrees/diploma and certificates awarded by Indian Universities and other Education Institutes, an apex body, namely, National Commission for Higher Education and Research shall be established in line with the recommendations of Prof. Yash Pal Committee/National Knowledge Commission. A Standing Committee on Open and Distance

Education of the said Commission, shall undertake the job of coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of education through the distance mode. Pending establishment of this body:

(i) Only those programmes, which do not involve extensive practical course work, shall be permissible through the distance mode.

(ii) Universities / institutions shall frame ordinances / regulations / rules, as the case may be, spelling out the outline of the programmes to be offered through the distance mode indicating the number of required credits, list of courses with assigned credits, reading references in addition to self learning material, hours of study, contact classes at study centres, assignments, examination and evaluation process, grading etc.

(iii) DEC of IGNOU shall only assess the competence of university/institute in respect of conducting distance education programmes by a team of experts, whose report shall be placed before the Council of DEC for consideration.

(iv) The approval shall be given only after consideration by Council of DEC and not by Chairperson, DEC. For the purpose, minimum number of mandatory meetings of DEC may be prescribed.

(v) AICTE would be directed under section 20 (1) of AICTE Act 1987 to ensure accreditation of the programmes in Computer Sciences, Information Technology and Management purposed to be offered by an institute/university through the distance mode, by National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

(vi) UGC and AICTE would be directed under section 20 (1) of their respective Acts to frame detailed regulations prescribing standards for various programmes/courses, offered through the distance mode under their mandate,

(vii) No university/institute, except the universities established by or under an Act of Parliament/State Legislature before 1985, shall offer any programme through the distance mode, henceforth, without approval from DEC and accreditation by NBA. However, the universities/institutions already offering programmes in Humanities, Commerce/Business/Social Sciences/Computer Sciences and Information Technology and Management, may be allowed to continue, subject to the condition to obtain fresh approval from DEC and accreditation from NBA within one year, failing which they shall have to discontinue the programme and the entire onus with respect to the academic career and financial losses of the students enrolled with them, shall be on such institutions/universities.

(viii) In light of observation of Apex Court, ex-post-facto approval granted by any authority for distance education shall not be honoured and granted henceforth. However, the universities established by or under an Act of education programmes in the streams of Humanities/Commerce/Social Sciences before the year 1991 shall be excluded from this policy.

(ix) The students who have been awarded degrees through distance mode by the universities without taking prior approval of DEC and other statutory bodies, shall be given one chance, provided they fulfil the requirement of minimum standards as prescribed by the UGC, AICTE or any other relevant Statutory Authority through Regulation, to appear in examinations in such papers as decided by the university designated to conduct the examination. If these students qualify in this examination, the university concerned shall issue a certificate. The degree along with the said qualifying certificate may be recognised for the purpose of employment/promotion under Central Government.

(x) A clarification shall be issued with reference to Gazette Notification No. 44 dated 1.3.1995 that it shall not be applicable on to the degrees/diplomas awarded by the universities established by or under an Act of Parliament or State Legislature before 1985, in the streams of Humanities/Commerce and Social Sciences.

(xi) The policy initiatives spelt out in succeeding paragraphs shall be equally applicable to institutions offering distance education/intending to offer distance education.

(b) All universities and institutions offering programmes through the distance mode shall need to have prior recognition/approval for offering such programmes and accreditation from designated competent authority, mandatorily in respect of the programmes offered by them. The violators of this shall be liable for appropriate penalty as prescribed by law. The universities/institutions offering education through distance mode and found involved in cheating of students/people by giving wrong/false information or wilfully suppressing the information shall also be dealt with strictly under the penal provisions of law.

(c) The universities / institutes shall have their own study centres for face to face counselling and removal of difficulties as also to seek other academic and administrative assistance. Franchising of distance education by any university, institutions whether public or private shall not be allowed.

(d ) The universities /institutions shall only offer such programmes through distance mode which are on offer on their campuses through conventional mode. In case of open universities, they shall necessarily have the required departments and faculties prior to offering relevant programmes through distance mode.

(e) It would be mandatory for all universities and education institutions offering distance education to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in delivery of their programmes, management of the student and university affairs through a web portal or any other such platform. The said platform shall invariably, display in public domain, the information about the statutory and other approvals along with other necessary information about the programmes on offer through distance mode, their accreditation and students enrolled, year- wise, etc. This may be linked to a national database, as and when created, to facilitate the stakeholders to take a view on the recognition of the degrees for the purpose of academic pursuit or employment with/under them.

(f) All universities/education institutions shall make optimal use of e-learning contents for delivery/offering their programmes through distance mode. They shall also be encouraged/required to adopt e-surveillance technology for conduct of clean, fair and transparent examinations.

(g) The focus of distance education shall be to provide opportunity of education to people at educationally disadvantaged situations such as living in remote and rural areas, adults with no or limited access to education of their choice etc.

(h) In order to promote flexible and need based learning, choice-based credit system shall be promoted and all ODE institutions shall be encouraged to adopt this system and evolve a mechanism for acceptance and transfer of credits of the courses successfully completed by students in face-to-face or distance mode. For the purpose, establishment of a credit bank may be considered. Similarly, conventional universities, offering face to face mode programmes shall be encouraged to accept the credits earned by the students through distance mode. A switch over from annual to semester system shall be essential.

(i) Convergence of the face-to-face mode teaching departments of conventional universities with their distance education directorates/correspondence course wings as also with open universities/institutions offering distance education, shall be impressed upon to bridge the gap in distance and conventional face-to-face mode of education.

(j) Reputed Foreign education providers well established, recognized and accredited by competent authority in their country and willing to offer their education programmes in India shall be allowed, subject to the fulfillment of the legal requirement of the country.

(k) A National Information and Communication Technology infrastructure for networking of ODE institutions shall be created under National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology.

(l) Efforts would be made to create favourable environment for research in Open and Distance Education (ODE) system by setting up infrastructure like e- libraries, digital data-base, online journals, holding regular workshops, seminars etc.

(m) Training and orientation programmes for educators and administrators in ODE system with focus on use of ICT and self-learning practice, shall be encouraged.

(n) ODE institutions shall be encouraged to take care the educational needs of learners with disabilities and senior citizens.

(o) An official notification clarifying the issue of recognition of academic qualification, earned through distance mode, for the purpose of employment, shall be issued.

(p) A mechanism shall be set up for evaluation of degrees of foreign universities for the purpose of academic pursuit as well as for employment under the Central Government. This may include the assessment of the credentials of the university concerned as also to test the competence of the degree holder, if needed.

This article introduces the educational solutions module of the world's most recent personal and professional problem solving site, describing competitive offerings, the customer profile, problem-oriented solutions, target markets, product offerings, and usability features. It concludes that the module is a major contribution to the information superhighway.

Introduction

The aim of this article is to introduce to the world the educational solutions module of the world's most recent personal and professional problem solving site. The article is addressed to those readers who may have an educational problem bogging them and who may therefore be looking for a way out of their predicament. The reader may be a parent, child, or student.

It is a common fact of life that we all have problems and that we are often frustrated or we tend to lash out because of our inability to find accessible and reliable information about our problems. This specialist site fills this need - as our pragmatic friend for solving our educational problems.

To be of the greatest use to people a problem solving site must combine pragmatic discussions of their personal or professional problem with merchant products that provide more detailed information. Typically, the web site will provide free information in the form of news, articles, and advice, which direct the visitor on what to do to solve her problems. Complementing this, the web site will also provide merchant products which discuss in detail how the visitor can go about resolving her problem. This means that the most effective, visitor-oriented problem-solving site will be an information-packed commercial site - and so is the world's most recent personal and professional problem solving site and its specialist sites.

The approach that we have adopted below is to describe competitive offerings, the customer profile, problem-oriented solutions, target markets, product offerings, and usability features.

Competitive Offerings

The following are the top educational sites on the Internet, along with their offerings.

US Department of Education. It defines the US education policy and provides information on financial aid, educational research and statistics, grants and contracts, and teaching and learning resources.

Educational Testing Service. It provides a range of test resources.

FunBrain.com. It provides educational games for K-8 kids.

PrimaryGames.com. It provides fun learning tools and games for kids.

GEM. It provides educational resources such as lesson plans and other teaching and learning resources.

Education World. It provides advice on lesson plans, professional development, and technology integration.

NASA Education Enterprise. It provides educational materials and information relating to space exploration.

Spartacus Educational. It is a British online encyclopedia that focuses on historical topics.

Department for Education and Skills. It is a UK government department site that offers information and advice on various educational and skills topics.

Times Educational Supplement. It offers teaching news, teaching & educational resources, and active forums to help UK teachers.
All these sites are useful in the domains that they cover. Their main limitations are as follows:

1. They tend to cover only a very narrow segment of the educational market.
2. They do not take as their starting point the daily educational needs of the typical family.
3. They lack a problem focus; i.e., they do not formulate the typical learning and educational problems that pupils, students, and parents face on a daily basis.
4. As a result of the preceding point, the solutions offered are not as incisive (i.e. as problem-centred) as they could be.
5. They do not offer merchant products that deepen the visitor's understanding of her problem and of the consequent solutions.

The educational solutions module of the world's most recent personal and professional problem solving site addresses these problems by targeting a multiplicity of market segments, adopting a customer profile that fits the typical education-pursuing family, considering the specific needs or problems that this family may face, offering incisive (problem-centred) solutions to the various problems, and offering a range of merchant products that deepen the visitor's appreciation of her problems and of the solutions that are applicable to them.

Customer Profile

The customer profile or target visitor characteristics of the educational solutions module is the same as for all specialist sites of the world's most recent personal and professional problem solving site. The site has been designed to meet the needs of visitors who have an educational problem bogging them. It is designed for both males and females, even though it is often convenient to refer to just one sex when writing.

This visitor uses search engines to research information about her personal or professional problem, with the intention of finding solutions to it. The visitor is serious about solving her problem and is therefore willing to buy products that help her to achieve her mission, provided that she can find reliable and honest information about relevant products so that she can make an informed decision about which ones to acquire. This information will help her to apply her finances economically, and hence avoid wasting money.

The visitor will want a money-back guarantee so that if a product does not live up to expectations or if she were misled into buying a product she can get a refund. Such a guarantee absolves her of purchase risks.

The visitor is intelligent (without necessarily being a genius), educated (without necessarily being a PhD), computer literate (without necessarily being a computer guru), and money-minded (without necessarily being a freebie hunter or an unemployed person). This of course does not mean that freebie hunters or unemployed persons cannot gain a thing from the site. To the contrary, there is a great deal of free information on the site. Just that it is hard to see how anyone can gain the full benefits of the site without buying products.

The visitor wants high quality information products (usually in digital form) and wants to pay the cheapest price for these (without paying so much emphasis on price that she compromises quality). The visitor also wants free bonus offers that are attached to the purchased goods.

The visitor is self-reliant and can cope on her own by reading, digesting, and applying advice about her problem until she solves it or discovers that she needs help from a professional, at which point her acquired knowledge will help her to reduce her consulting fees. As a result of the knowledge gained, the visitor will be able to assess consultants in order to avoid incompetent or fraudulent ones.

Problem-Centred Solutions

Our free solutions are organised in the form of pragmatic articles that are written by top experts. Each article addresses a specific daily problem, but does not go into detail. It explains the problem and tells the visitor what she must do to solve her problem. However, it does not tell the visitor how she must solve it - this is too much for an article. To find out about the how, the visitor must buy a product (usually an e-book or e-book set) that goes into greater depth.

The set of educational articles that we have chosen, to provide initial solution to a visitor's problem are as follows:

Signs of a Gifted Child - Informs parents on how to identify whether or not their children are gifted.

Essential Parenting Lessons for Enriching Your Child's Education - Teaches parents how to enhance their child's education.

Using Positive Affirmations to Be a Better Student - Teaches students how to use positive affirmations to improve their performance.

They Are Just Afraid of Writing - Teaches writing skills to students

How Can Parents Encourage Their Children to Read? - Shows parents how they can improve their children's reading skills.

Test Preparation Tutoring - Discusses the topic of tutoring students to prepare for tests or exams.

Test Taking Strategies - Discusses various strategies for taking and passing tests or exams

Playing and Winning the Scholarship Game - Describes how to win scholarships.

How to Get a Scholarship to a UK University - Describes how to win scholarships to a UK university.

Saving Money for College - Instructs students on how they can save money in preparation for college.

Student Loans: When Your Educational Dreams Can't Compete with the Cost - Explains to students the benefits of a student loan.

Education Loans Can Fund a Higher Degree to Boost Your Career - Also explains to students the benefits of a student loan.

The Secret to US Department of Education Loans - Teaches students how to get a US DoE loan to finance their higher education.

Student Loan Consolidation - Save Money, Pay Less, Spend More - Explains to graduates how to make use of loan consolidation to reduce their student loan repayments.

Higher Education: Finding the Right College for You - Explains to students how to find the right college or university for their higher education studies.

Mobile Learning - An Alternative Worth Considering - Explains the concept of mobile learning and its place in education.

Online Degrees - Is Online Education Right for You? - Analyses the merits of online learning as compared to traditional learning.

An Online College Education Overview - Reviews the whole concept of online learning.

Finding the Right Quotation for Your Paper or Speech Online - Shows writers and speakers how to find the right quotation to use in their writings or speeches.

Collaboration: An Important Leadership Development Skill - Explores the useful concept of collaboration and its role in leadership development.

At the end of each article is a list of merchant products that supplement the article's content. A link is also included for accessing the educational product catalogue.

Target Markets and Product Offerings

Now let us turn to the target markets and their associated product offerings. We have positioned the segments to address the various needs of a visitor over a period of time, and at any given time a customer may belong to one or more of the market segments. By tracking and assessing progress throughout the school year, teachers can then adjust both curriculum and teaching methods to better serve the personal needs of the kids in their classrooms. Online tools such as math games can help in this undertaking, as a virtual environment can provide detailed real-time feedback on the progress of every child who uses it.

Addressing Variables for Academic Success

Differentiated instruction addresses the fact that every child comes to the classroom with different educational needs. While some children thrive through reading textbooks and listening to lectures, others require a more hands-on, visual approach to learning. Despite this, today's teachers are expected to impart a specific subset of knowledge to children at each grade level. This mix of a common curriculum and variable learning styles can put a teacher in a difficult position. In order to provide the proper individualized educational environment, it's necessary to know where each student's strengths and weaknesses lie. Progress monitoring is an essential part of this process. However, traditional monitoring methods such as benchmark testing can take a lot of time away from instruction, which is frustrating for teachers and can have a negative effect on student progress.

Incorporating Online Tools

The use of technology in the classroom isn't a new thing. As the years go by, more and more schools are beginning to incorporate technological aspects into everyday instruction. This is a particularly valuable trend when it comes to differentiated instruction. Through the use of an online environment that includes games, virtual manipulatives and personalized progress summaries, teachers and administrators can more easily track how students are doing at any grade level. And since online games are hosted on a remote server rather than individual computers around the school, progress reports can be accessed from anywhere, anytime, making it easier for teachers to share information and better adapt their classroom environments to provide an optimal educational experience.

Implementing an Adaptive Environment in the Classroom

Since the current classroom model isn't conducive to intense, individualized instruction for every student, teachers who wish to implement a differentiated instruction model must mix group instruction with individual attention to create the proper learning environment. Organization and planning are key to this, which is where online learning tools come in handy. Getting comprehensive feedback about students' progress at the push of a button or click of a mouse saves time and gives teachers the information that they need to adapt the current curriculum to best serve their particular class. Adaptive online educational tools also provide students with an alternative method of learning, so teachers can offer those with different learning styles an easier environment in which to grasp and master new concepts.

Using differentiated instruction in the classroom helps to ensure that each student receives the amount and type of attention that they need to succeed academically. Adding online games to everyday instruction provides students with an interactive learning environment that moves at their own pace while tracking progress in a way that teachers can use to better serve each child.
Often, when making big life-changing decisions, it's helpful to create a pros and cons list of each of your options. Visualizing your options can make your decision path more clear.

Here, we've broken down the pros and cons of an online degree:

Pros

Flexibility
The best part about going back to school online is the amount of flexibility it allows in your day to day life. Unlike traditional in-class degree programs, you won't have to drive to campus every day and sit in class for three hours. You can access all of your class resources from the comfort of your own home or anywhere with an internet connection.

Because of the flexibility an online education allows, it is a great option for people looking to advance their career while continuing to work. An online educational program allows current workers to take online classes after or before work. Online degrees are also very popular among stay-at-home mothers with young children, allowing them to stay with the kids and go to class on their computer.

Value
Online degrees are a great value. They give you the same background as an on-campus degree for less overall costs. By choosing to go to school online rather than on campus, you will save on text books costs (most of your class resources are available online), parking fees and overall tuition costs. Because you aren't on campus using the physical resources provided to on-campus students, you will avoid paying for these resources.

Time savings
Think about all the time you will save each day by going to school online rather than on campus. When you wake up at your home each day, you are already in the class room. All you need is your computer and you're ready for class. If you add up the time you save by not having to commute to campus, find a parking spot, walk to class and then trek back to your home, you are literally saving several hours each week.

The extra time you save can be used to get in shape, work on your start-up business, complete projects around the house and a million other things.

Lots of options
Some people think that there are limited degree options when going back to school online. In fact, with thousands of degree options from thousands of schools across the country, this could not be further from the truth. There are tons of degree options available online from the Arts and Sciences, to Engineering and Physical Therapy.

Cons

Less personal interaction
These type of online programs do not provide nearly as much personal interaction as an on-campus degree program would. With an online degree program, you are generally on your own at your home, working at your own pace. On campus programs allow you to meet new people and interact with your peers on a daily basis. This might not be a con for everyone out there, but for some people it makes a big difference.

Disconnected from campus
Since you are not required to be on campus to complete an online degree program, often online students can feel disconnected from campus. This would include missing any on-campus activities and campus associations like student clubs and organizations.

If you think an online education is the right path for you, you can find other educational information and resources online.
Unfortunately, I was only fluent in the English language and had only basic knowledge of French. How was it possible to achieve this dream without being strong in two international languages? I shared my passion with a friend who advised me to take graduate linguistics classes. The biggest challenge I had then was the fact that I had a busy schedule hence making it rather difficult to attend college classes. The good news is that when I was almost giving up, I came across online graduate linguistics classes, which worked perfectly with my schedule.

The popularity of online graduate programs is on the rise due to the high number of working adults that are interested in furthering their education. Another factor that has led to the popularity of these web-based programs is the cost. Online programs are much cheaper as compared to the other kinds of programs. Combining cost and flexibility definitely made me go for an online graduate linguistic class which I graduated from successfully and got my dream job as a UN translator.

Those who have studied online can testify to the fact that the online programs are an evolution of academics. I would be away for over ten hours every day working, which made it impossible for me to attend campus classes in the evening. With the graduate online programs, it is possible to have time to rest, spend with the family and work. Another factor that worked well for me with the online graduate linguistic class was the fact that I reside far from the college that offers this course. I was able to save on transportation costs while studying online.

Other costs that are charged for campus-based students such as athletic and medical fees are also eliminated with the online graduate programs. The savings made may appear small but if it is amalgamated for four years, it could end up being a substantial amount. This is a very important point to note especially for those who are faced with the challenge of having limited resources.

Since there are many online graduate programs, it is advisable to carry out research before making the final selection. I took time to go through different websites before finally deciding on the one that I enrolled in. I made a checklist and took note of important details such as fees, duration, course outline and the reputation of the program. Once I decided upon the program, I took time to authenticate the details so as to avoid a situation of being exposed to scammers.

With adequate research, it is possible to achieve a graduate degree online. Do not allow your dream of furthering your education to remain as just a dream because of busy schedules. Take the initiative to look for a suitable program from the long list available online. I have achieved my life- long dream of working as a UN translator and it all began when I enrolled in the graduate linguistic class online.

Earning a PhD is one of the ways to show that you have the qualification to stay ahead in the business. However, you may believe that it would require a lot of your time if you enroll in a program due to your already tight work schedule, family life, etc. In this situation, it may be a good idea to consider enrolling in an online PhD program. Nowadays, many notable universities offer online PhD programs for those who wish to obtain their degree from home. Enrolling in an online degree program enables you to save time as you can study the coursework whenever you have free time, interact with your professors virtually and access the library online. Some universities even offer a combination of on-campus and online learning. In this kind of program, you will attend physical class as well as virtual instructions. It enables you to enjoy the college atmosphere while at the same time you still have more time for your business.

With the rapid growth of online education, it is very easy to find lists of universities that offer online programs. However, finding a legitimate one can be a challenging task. Below I will share some tips on how to select the right online PhD program:

1. Consider Its Accreditation

One of the most important aspects of an online PhD program is the institution's accreditation. You don't need to hesitate if the program has been accredited by a recognized accreditation organization. An accreditation organization has reviewed specific aspects of the program such as the faculty credentials, admission procedures, course content and many other aspects. If these aspects don't meet the standards, the university is required to make improvements. To make sure that your preferred program has received accreditation, check with the department of education.

2. Personalized Instructions

People may believe that students won't receive personalized instruction when attending online classes. In fact, students that attend online programs, especially PhD programs, still receive individualized instruction. You may not spend very much time meeting your lecturers in person but you will have many opportunities to obtain their assistance through email or online chatting. A reputable online PhD program has instructors who will assist you via email or phone.

3. Consider the Cost

Cost is another important consideration in your search to find the best PhD program. You may strive to find a more affordable program but once again check its accreditation. An affordable price may reduce your burden in financing your studies, but it won't benefit you if the quality is below the standards and if the degree is not accredited. If you need help in financing your studies, you can search for student funding of PhD programs. There are some financing programs available for students. You may obtain financing from the institution itself, government grants or federal student loans. To obtain funding from a notable institution, their program should be accredited.

4. Compare Professor's Reputation

The reputation of the faculty is the most important thing to consider in studying for a PhD degree. Your advisor will affect your studies, selection of a dissertation topic and sometimes your career. Make sure that the faculty has extensive experience in the field study, are widely published and are known to be helpful to their students.
Today's math curriculum requires kids of all ages to learn and retain particular skills at each grade level, making it essential to ensure that they master each idea as it comes so that they don't get lost or confused when higher concepts are introduced.

Offer An Engaging Environment

Kids respond well to learning environments that are fun, interesting and engaging. When you give kids the opportunity to work in such an environment, teaching math can become much easier. One way to do this is to take advantage of the growing use of technology in education by introducing online math games to student curriculum. These games are accessible from any computer with an Internet connection and so can be used in the classroom or at home to supplement math education. Though using games to teach math skills isn't a substitute for the traditional educational environment, it can be helpful to kids who learn better with audio-visual tools than with standard print materials.

Encourage Mastery of Skills

Math is one concept that requires kids to master one skill before moving on to another. If you don't teach math skills such as number recognition, counting and basic addition and subtraction to kids at a young age, they won't be able to understand the concepts that they encounter as they move on to higher grades. By encouraging kids to pay attention to each concept as it comes and learn how to apply it to many different kinds of math problems, you give them the tools that they need to excel at math throughout their academic careers. Teaching math this way requires diligence and patience since each child will learn at a different pace. Online math games take this into account by giving kids the opportunity to move on when they're ready, rather than forcing them to continue before they've fully grasped the current lesson.

Include Positive Reinforcement

All learning processes come with both successes and failures. Kids need to learn how to accept when they have trouble with a concept and be willing to put in the effort necessary to understand it. Online math games and interactive learning aids give kids a chance to go back and work on anything they find hard by giving them an easier, more inviting way to address their struggles. By taking difficult concepts and presenting them with the aid of colorful settings and friendly characters, games help to ease kids' fear of failure and offer support as they work through things that might otherwise baffle them if presented in a textbook or on a worksheet.

Interactive learning tools such as online math games add an extra dimension to today's methods of teaching math. Since math is something that kids are going to need throughout their lives, it's important that they grasp the basic concepts as early as possible. Being able to play and learn at the same time makes math seem easier and encourages kids to master the skills they're going to need as they get older.
Math facts, the relationships between numbers, basic arithmetic and advanced calculations must all be learned before kids can move on to middle school. With all of these things to learn and retain, it's understandable if your child requires a little math help.

Aiding Struggling Students

Many kids lack proficiency in basic math concepts, making it difficult for them to develop a full understanding of new ideas. For these kids, online math games can be a great help. Both entertaining and academic, online games offer an adaptive learning environment that works with kids to help them reach their full potential. It can be much easier to get your struggling student to accept math help by giving them a game to play than by sitting them down with extra written homework. Through games, math becomes more interesting and learning can take place while engaging your child's natural inclination toward play.

Challenging Advanced Learners

Other students find math to be easy and may quickly become bored when they have to sit through a lesson that they already understand. If your child falls into this category, they may benefit from math help that challenges them with new ideas rather than reviewing established concepts. Online games can be used for this as well, since the learning environment is designed to adapt to your child's specific academic needs. Through the use of a rigorous curriculum in line with today's academic standards, online math games can introduce your advanced student to new ideas anytime he or she is ready. This provides kids with an edge in the classroom that can be valuable at any grade level.

The Benefits of Progress Monitoring

As a parent, it's important to stay involved in your child's academic career. Parental involvement helps to reinforce the learning that takes place in the classroom and encourages kids to put their all into their schoolwork. When online games are used as an interactive tool for math help, it's easy to keep track of your child's progress. These games engage your child at his or her current skill level so that new concepts can be introduced at just the right time. Getting involved in this process lets your child know that you care about how well he or she is doing, which in turn boost confidence and can help to improve academic performance.

Whether your child finds math to be a challenge or is zipping through new concepts with lightning speed, it never hurts to have tools on hand to offer a little math help. The interactive environment provided by online games gives kids the perfect setting for building new skills and moving on to advanced concepts on their own time while giving you a way to keep an eye on their progress. By being able to monitor their strengths and weaknesses, you can better help your kids to develop the proficiency necessary to excel in all levels of math.
But, comparing these online universities can be a challenges. You may know the degree you are looking for, but it is not an easy task to narrow down the list to the best online degree program that meets your requirements. Below are the five considerations that you can use to compare the online universities before you select the best one among them.

1. Compare The Accreditation

It is your responsibility to make sure the online degree you earn is worth the value. Don't fall into the trap of diploma mill and earn a fake degree. Therefore, accreditation is the most important factor to consider when comparing online universities. Besides avoiding the scams, the consideration of accreditation is important to make sure you have a smooth start in your future career. For example, if you pursue an online degree program from a regional accredited university, you have an easier time finding jobs, using the degree to further your study or transferring your credits to other schools. Besides the regional accreditation, degrees from online universities that are accredited by DETC (Distance Education and Training Council) are widely accepted by employers.

2. Compare The Admission Requirements

Each school has the admission requirements for online students. It will be a waste of time if you are trying to apply for the online degree program that you are not qualified for. You should compare the admission requirements of online universities for the course you are interested in pursuing. Make sure you can meet the requirements before you submit your application.

3. Compare The Residency Requirements

When comparing the online degree programs offered by different online universities, it is important to compare the residency requirements and make sure you select the one that fits your lifestyle. The education programs may be offered entirely through the internet or require you to attend some hours of physical classroom sessions or face-to-face discussions at a brick-and-mortar university. If there is residency requirements, you may want to consider the online degree programs with physical facilities near your home or workplace.

4. Compare Online Class Schedules

Flexibility is a feature and the advantage of online education. Many online education programs allow students to learn based on their pace of study. But, it may not apply for some programs as they need the online students to meet strict deadlines for every subject they sign up in a semester. Depending on the time you can allocate on online study, you should compare the class schedule for the courses offered by online universities. If you are a working individual and your job requires you to travel frequently from one place to another, you may want to consider the online degree program that gives the maximum flexibility so that you can plan your own schedule to fit your times.

5. Compare The Examination Requirements

Almost all online degree programs require students to complete the examination in order to earn the degree. Each online university will have its examination requirements. Many of the universities have specific examination centers for their online students to sit for the exams. You will need to compare the examination requirements from each online university to make sure you can meet the requirements. They might need help of a tutor to take them through the course. A tutor's responsibility is not just to help them with their homework and get done. A tutor should work on building the student's concepts so that they no longer lag behind in their high school classes. They should offer positive feedback to boost their confidence.

Here are some tips a high school chemistry tutor can follow:

1. Know more about the student

Do not jump into explaining Chemistry concepts the very first day. Ask the student what they are doing wrong in Chemistry. Also ask them about any concepts that they are confused about. Put the student at ease regarding coursework.

2. Set Deadlines

Develop a timetable of the assignments, quizzes and reports that the student has to submit in class and then facilitate the student. Keep track of his/her performance.

3. Ask them to review last class' concepts

Many times, students understand a concept but later forget or confuse it again unless it is reviewed. Ask your student to state the last session's teachings. Then relate them to the next lesson i.e. the lesson you will be teaching today. Create a mental flowchart, relating each chemistry concept to the other. Start each session with review of the previous one.

4. Do not show haste

Go slowly and try not to jump from one concept to another. Before moving to a new concept, ask the person to recount what they have understood from the current concept. For instance if Chemistry equations confuse the student, work slowly through each time before stringing the equation and telling them about the equation products.

5. Adapt to learning needs of the student

If the student is more of a visual person, show them videos or give them molecular models when explaining organic chemistry.

6. Give positive feedback

Students might feel it reflects poorly on their intelligence if they have to depend on tutoring. Positive feedback can boost their morale and push them forward to learn. Give them specific positive feedback. For instance, if the student is working very hard and his thesis idea is a strong one, say: "Your thesis topic is very unique. Your teacher will appreciate you going out of the way to do your thesis".

With these methods and techniques applied, a high school chemistry tutor can make sure the student scores high in chemistry tests.
The high quality learning resources that are becoming available to people all over the world through the internet are giving unseen before access to high quality lessons and materials, so many independently driven learners find this opportunity fantastic.

Being able to understand the benefits of education beyond your degree and credit will benefit humans in the long-run. Keeping your brain active is believed to prevent certain neural conditions that result for a variety of reasons, including stagnancy.

Supplementing Your College Education

For students earning a degree, paying for course credits is expensive. There may be a class that you think would be valuable to your success in your field, but that is not required for your major.

Finding classes on the internet free will help people who want to enhance their education at no cost. High quality material is becoming increasingly more available, and taking the initiative to go above and beyond will benefit you educationally and also help you to develop healthy study habits.
Hobbyists

Some people simply enjoy giving their brain the food it loves-information. It's easy to forget that our brains love good clean knowledge and exploration, but that is the fuel that keeps it fresh. Free online courses give us the chance to let our mind run free through worlds of poetry, astronomy, calculus, world history, and so on.

Available Material

So what does an online course look like? Well, it's full of all the good ideas and facts that would be delivered in a lecture, but at no cost. You can find these courses in all shapes in sizes, from the mediocre to the Ivy League level. Audio and video clips are often accessible, as well as assignments and ways to challenge yourself and solidify your understanding of the material.

There's no pressure to complete any of the programs you start online, because they exist solely for your benefit. So if you're worried you don't have time, there's no need. Some want to learn for fun, many for business reasons, but it is your desire and passion to learn that will make you successful. No one can give you that.

I have discovered that many popular language-learning methods are not what they say they are and you can waste a lot of money quickly on them. Here is my homework on some of them.

Rossetta Stone - online - $299 for 12 months

I tested the free demo online at the Rossetta Stone site. The demo seems to brag that there are no written translations, you learn from looking at pictures only. The first lesson for Spanish shows pictures of a woman (una mujer) and man (un hombre). By clicking the pictures you learn the words woman and man. The next lesson shows a boy (un nino) or girl (una nina). So now you have learned words for boy, girl, man and woman. The next pictures are of people drinking and eating. You learn all of this from pictures only. There are no written translations. This is where I had a few questions. What if I wanted to know who is this woman? (in the picture) What is her name? Where is she from? What kind of pictures can they make to teach me the words who, what, where, her and name? Also what do the words is, this, and from look like? I had to use Google translate to find that (una) and (un) are the word "a" in Spanish. I urge you to take the free Rossetta Stone demo online before you purchase it.

Pimsleur - software - $119.95

The site started by teaching me phrases. I think it makes more sense to build a vocabulary first than to start with phrases because then you will know what each word means. From their free half hour lesson of repeating phrases I learned the Spanish words for pardon, understand, English, miss, speak, sir, no, yes, a little, North American, you, and are. Twelve words. I was a bit puzzled because they taught me "entendo" and "entende" for the word "understand" then told me I was saying "I understand" and "you understand." "Yo" is I in Spanish and "usted" is you. "Yo" was never spoken with understand and "usted" was used only at the end of the lesson and not spoken with the words for understand.

The lesson is audio only. Nothing is written. I like to see the words because for me it is easier to remember them. I completely agree with their statement - "Probably no aspect of learning a foreign language is more important than memory." Word memory is the key. Repetition is good for this reason. I think you could learn from their approach but it will be slow and impossible to learn phrases of your own choice.

Transparent Language - software - $179.95

I like the philosophy of the site. I could not test it because they offer no free trial or way to see how they teach so I Googled the site for reviews. I have found if reviews talk only how great the method is but not how you are taught or why you will learn fast they are most likely written by the people selling the product. No trial lesson and no review with content? You decide.

World Word Exchange - online - 2 lessons $12 - 4 lessons $20 - 8 lessons $32

This is a new site. Their philosophy seemed sound so I signed up and got a free lesson. The site has seventy-six lessons of twenty words each. The first lesson had the words: who, what, where, when, why and how among others. These are helpful one-word question words. I clicked the words to hear a native speaker say them. What surprised me was that they spelled the English word first, next to it the word was spelled phonetically in English, and then they have the native text. I listened and studied for a while then went to their memory test. It's a multiple-choice word game which challenges you to match the question word to eight other choices. This is an excellent way to remember the words in my opinion. Repetition is how we remember.

The site also has a grammar section that explains how to use the words and there is a page to practice spelling. For people who already know some words there is a user lesson page where you can choose the words you want to learn. The site has some great tools. The most impressive feature is the organization of the words you learn. Learning the most common words first is a feature no other language method I could find has. The only down side to the site is they teach only Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and Thai. Hopefully more languages will be added soon.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769637035449336357.post-83763260410445800252011-12-20T18:42:00.000-08:002012-02-27T18:59:35.905-08:00Online Management Courses - A Glance
Online management courses have come as a blessing to those who want to pursue education in management but do not have the resources to do so. Resources here could be time or money. There are a range of training programs available for groups and individuals who wish to develop or enhance key skills and knowledge that can be used in a wide variety of business contexts. Needless to say, these skills in turn help them in their professional lives.

A certification or diploma is not essential for entering into the business world. You can always find alternative activities like operating a home based web business that does not require you to possess a degree under normal circumstances. Many self made millionaires went from rags to riches after dropping out. It is enough to make a connection, however untrue it may be. Moreover, people harm themselves if they figure that dropping out is the requisite to wealth.

Furthermore, if you are among the general public who wants a good job and career to come after a qualification, then for all this to fall into place, certifications are needed badly. The courses themselves, if accredited, have not been found to be lacking for content or structure. Though, what changes is the mode of delivery.

Online Management courses hold great promise because of the world of opportunity they open for candidates.
Every organization needs talent that they can nurture so that the organization can have a bright future. Training facilitators assist you to complete your study from home and take advantage of your work experience to accelerate your progress. Learning and assessment activities can also be tailored to suit individual needs and while being focused on assisting you to achieve new milestones in your current employment.

So it is up to you to decide which course you want to pursue and in what specialization. Many well known colleges recognizing the advantages of this type of learning have started their own online programs which grow in size and variety every year. Furthermore, their takers are also continually on the rise.

Finally, management training is best learnt if it can be implemented in the corporate world and this practical application of the education only comes about if the students implement what they learn in the workplace. So, industrial training or working simultaneously while studying can prove to be a boon to the students. These are most easily implemented in the online mode of study. So one should do one's homework thoroughly and go where one's interest lies.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769637035449336357.post-55154405591627559942011-12-20T18:40:00.000-08:002012-02-27T18:58:49.062-08:00Quick Information About WHMIS and Certification
Do you have an idea about WHMIS?
Now, as far as WHMIS testing is concerned, it is done to administer formal testing, or re testing to refresh the memories of employees every 3 years. In case you are preparing for the formal WHMIS and Certification training, you can decide to go with the traditional classroom style setting or even online training. You can opt for online training, if you have a shoestring budget. It is certainly an amazing method to complete training within a specified time and that it can be done without having to spend a lot of money.

While looking for a test online, it is highly important for you to choose the WHMIS testing class, which regularly gets updated and maintains a pace with the changing legislation. WHMIS training is not given immediately. However, it must be done only after the employee has a very good knowledge of hazardous materials and is ready for the training. Before the training, they will be provided with in-depth knowledge about the use of hazardous materials. During the certification program, it is important to watch the slideshow carefully before attempting the test. Finally, you will have to answer 40 multiple choice questions based on the WHMIS training. The online tests are simply amazing as they can be given according to your convenience, from work or from the comfort of your home at a very affordable fee.
After all, being a stand-out student will not just help your grades, but it can lead to great opportunities down the road. If you are attending a large business program, however, it can be hard to be heard above the crowd. Some tips can help you to be a star student even when your classes are huge.

Many students select their business degree program for reasons other than size. After all, there are factors that are more important when it comes to choosing the degree program that is right for you. The size of your program can have an impact on your success, however. In a small program, your instructors will get to know you quite well, while in a large program, you risk being just a number. If you are enrolled in a larger program, you'll have to work extra hard to build relationships with your professors.

In a large business program, lecture classes with several hundred students may not be uncommon. While you probably can't avoid taking classes like this, you may be able to opt for more intimate seminar-style classes. Choose your courses wisely during your degree program if it is your intent to stand out. Take the size of a class, as well as the setting, into consideration when picking your courses each semester. Your academic advisor can help you to choose courses that best suit your goals.

In a large class, the key to doing well is regular participation. Yes, it can be intimidating to participate in a class of several hundred people, but your professor likely welcomes students' input. If you participate consistently and truly have something to contribute, your professor will remember you. Don't monopolize classroom conversation, however. Make sure you contribute when you have an interesting point to bring up.

Keep in mind that a large part of building faculty relationships in a large program is what takes place in between classes. Your interaction with your professors outside of the classroom is important. Your professor has open office hours one or more times a week, but how many of the several hundred students in your class actually show up to these?

Making a point to discuss your questions and concerns with your professors during office hours always pays off. You'll not only become friendly with your professors, but you'll be clued in on upcoming opportunities, such as course offerings you may be interested in or even internships.

But what if you are earning your business degree online, and you don't have direct contact with your professors? You can make a good impression by ensuring that everything you submit to discussion boards and forums associated with the online class is of the highest professional quality. All papers and assignments should be your best work. Finally, you can communicate with your professors regularly and effectively through email.

Whether you are going to an online college or in a large lecture hall where hundreds of students compete for attention, it is possible to stand out in your classes. You don't have to resign yourself to being just a number. Business degrees are only successful if you put forth the effort.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769637035449336357.post-43509045553090419772011-11-10T18:51:00.000-08:002012-02-27T18:56:51.741-08:00Online Games Provide Interactive Math Help
Math can be a difficult subject to grasp, especially for young children who are trying to piece together basic concepts. Though some kids have a knack for numbers, many need a little extra math help to achieve the best possible performance at their grade level. One way you can offer that help is through the use of interactive online math games.

Making Learning Fun

Perhaps the biggest benefit of using games to supplement traditional education is that they make learning fun. When your child is engaged in a bright, supportive learning environment, he or she is more likely to pay attention. Interactive math games use this type of setup to build upon previously learned concepts, introduce new ideas and challenge children in positive ways. Even kids who claim to hate math may find themselves enjoying this type of math help as they come to a greater understanding of how to work with numbers.

Clarifying Difficult Concepts

No matter how good your child's academic performance is, there can be some math concepts that are hard to understand. Addition, subtraction and basic multiplication may seem like simple things, but for kids, each new skill is uncharted territory. It can be very frustrating to watch your child struggle with homework or tests as he or she progresses through different levels of math. The math help offered by online games takes textbooks and worksheets out of the equation and gives kids a learning tool that adapts to their own pace of learning. Unlike a classroom setting, educational online games are tailored to individual players. This means that your child will be able to go over a subject as many times as he or she needs in order to master it. And if some ideas come more easily, he or she can move right on to the next lesson.

Bringing Kids and Parents Together

Parental involvement is essential to a good education, and using interactive math games can help get you engaged in your child's learning process. Instead of just sitting your child down in front of the computer and letting a game give all the math help, you can share the experience by joining in with helpful tips, encouraging comments and positive reinforcement. Showing your child that you are proud of his or her accomplishments gives an added incentive when it comes to learning. Kids like sharing their achievements, and knowing that you're paying attention to their studies puts difficult things like math in a new perspective. When you get involved, your kids are no longer simply working towards a good grade or a high test score. Parental involvement gives them an incentive to work hard because someone cares about how well they're doing, which in turn makes for a more positive learning experience overall.

Offering kids extra math help through online learning games can give them the help they need to gain a better understanding of concepts they'll use throughout their lives. By putting an otherwise difficult subject in a positive light, you can give your child important tools that will allow him or her to become more proficient when it comes to all kinds of math.
Jim Wheelin writes about many different educational topics for parents, kids and teachers. While looking for math help online for his kids, he has come across different games and lesson plans. Jim strongly encourages other parents and teachers to test educational games such as the ones offered at http://www.dreambox.com/.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769637035449336357.post-1504574800567113602011-11-10T18:50:00.000-08:002012-02-27T18:57:15.661-08:00Guide to Getting Executive Assistant Training
Executive assistant training is important for anyone who aspires to be a personal assistant. As an executive assistant you will be in charge of achieving the goals and visions of your organization or boss. With this amount of expectation on your shoulders then you will require proper training. One mistake could cause the organization a whole lot and cost you your job as well. As such, you need to take extra care by getting the right people to train you. The proper kind of training makes all the difference in your level of professionalism.

Most companies will insist that you have a high school diploma for you to qualify as an executive assistant. Many of them will even insist that you have executive assistant training to make it as their personal assistant. There are instances where you will be asked if you have a bachelor degree or an associate. Some bosses are willing to trade professional experience for academic qualifications as long as you can convince them that you are good at what you do. If you have practical experience in the operation of standard equipment in the office, you will certainly stand a high chance of landing the big job.

You will require minute taking courses to make it as a good executive assistant. A company will want to know whether you can get all the minutes in a meeting without missing a thing. As such, attention to detail is one quality that you have to possess in good measure. In addition to good minute taking abilities, you will be needed to have great communication skill so that there are no issues resulting from miscommunication. Certain posts will also require that you have a high typing speed.

You may need to attend an executive assistant workshop, as this will help you acquire the skills that you need. From such a workshop you will be able to acquire the most important skills for this trade. You will also be able to network with other executive secretaries and learn a thing or two from them. You will be trained on the basics of work ethics and loyalty which are some of the qualities that are important for your success as a personal assistant. Apart from a degree certificate it will add more value to your career if you attended a workshop or conference for other personal assistants.

Finally, you should take good care where you get your executive assistant training. There are many training schools out there that will claim to provide quality training but this is not always guaranteed. You should do your own research to find out what will work for you. Ask your friends for recommendations on a good training school. Ensure that the school is registered by the relevant authorities to avoid having a certificate that no one recognizes. You may want to get a short term education that lasts only a year. The other option is to take a bachelor degree in business administration. It's essential that math basic skills be mastered early on, as these skills build the foundation for understanding harder concepts introduced in higher grades. First grade math contains quite a few important skills, and using online games may be able to give students the help they need in order to become fluent in working with numbers.

Building on Basic Concepts

In kindergarten, kids learn simple math skills like number recognition and counting. They're able to begin to recognize that higher numbers are bigger numbers and can understand concepts like counting by twos and tens. Using online games with these children when they reach first grade can help them transition between beginning math skills and more complex numerical concepts. Providing a wide variety of different games in an entertaining online environment gets kids excited about tackling new ideas and puts math in a positive context. Once the foundation has been laid for basic comprehension and computational skills, children can use these games to progress even further.

Mastering New Skills

By the time they're learning first grade math, kids should be ready to tackle things like the relationship between addition and subtraction, the concept of adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and learning to count beyond 100. Being able to compare numbers as larger, smaller or equal to each other is also important, as it provides the basis for recognizing whether or not the answer to a computation problem is the correct one.

Children need to be allowed to master these and other essential math skills before being asked to move on to new ideas, but the modern classroom setting doesn't always allow for this. As focus on core curriculum begins to push complex ideas into lower grade levels, kids are expected to learn more at a younger age. First grade math still contains lany fundamental concepts essential for understanding higher math, and therefore shouldn't be rushed through. By letting a child try and re-try each new thing as it comes, online math games can give the extra time and practice that struggling students need to achieve success.

Taking it One Step at a Time

Every child learns at a different rate, but it's important to remember that all children should be able to grasp similar concepts once they've completed first grade math. Without the ability to count, add, subtract and understand basic relationships between all three, progression to higher math becomes difficult. Though online math games can't be used to teach everything a child needs to know, they can be an invaluable tool when it comes to augmenting what is learned in the classroom. Games supply a different context and more interactive setting than worksheets and are also more dynamic, which gives kids a new way to think about the concepts they're learning and can shed light on things they may be having trouble with.

The interactive world of online games makes first grade math enjoyable for young children and allows them to practice new math concepts outside of school. Both parents and teachers can use these tools to enhance traditional learning, thereby giving kids a unique and entertaining way to hone necessary math skills.
In his latest project, he worked with elementary teachers to find fun first grade math lessons and other classroom activities. Jim strongly encourages other parents and teachers to test educational games such as the ones offered at http://www.dreambox.com/first-grade-math-games.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769637035449336357.post-4094723107581208232011-11-10T18:49:00.000-08:002012-02-27T18:57:28.146-08:00Math Games Are Effective Tools for Adaptive Learning
Adaptive learning recognizes that each student learns at her own pace and in her own way. The role of the teacher is to support the student's efforts so that all are able to reach their potential. This is a complex and challenging task, and the teacher in today's classroom needs appropriate tools to accomplish the goal. One tool that is effective in helping students meet the requirements of the common core state standards in mathematics is an online system of math games that continuously assesses the child's progress and adjusts tasks accordingly.

"Learning Trajectories in Mathematics," a January 2011 research paper published by the Consortium for Policy Research in Education, asserts that instruction must adapt to the student's needs and learning style in order to produce desirable results. Authors Phil Daro, Frederic A. Mosher, and Tom Corcoran emphasize that, instead of selecting able students for success, educators in a standards-based system must constantly assess progress and adjust instruction so that each student experiences success. This is adaptive learning.

The researchers further write that no system or tool can "replace careful attention and timely interventions by a well-trained teacher who understands how children learn mathematics." The alert teacher assesses how well students understand the concepts and processes being studied and provides instruction that helps them to thoroughly master each step before moving on to the next.

The common core state standards provide a useful framework for adaptive learning. The teacher is the person who interprets to students what those standards mean and provides appropriate learning activities. In order to do this, the teacher must understand how children learn math concepts and processes, what points they may struggle with, and interventions that can help them to find successful solutions.

Learning trajectories are attempts to describe the varying paths children may follow to develop mathematics understanding. They have their roots in developmental psychology and developmental neuroscience. The teacher needs to be familiar with these processes in order to provide the kind of help each child needs. A well-informed teacher is able to use technology to reinforce the concepts that have been taught in class.

Combining classroom instruction and a variety of learning experiences with an effective computer-based learning program will help the teacher reach each student at his or her optimal learning level. No teacher can be everywhere at once. With a good system of reinforcing games that provides real-time feedback, the teacher can pinpoint trouble areas and provide support to those children who are having difficulty understanding the concepts being taught.

An advantage of online math game systems is that students are able to continue their mathematics practice at home. In this way, they can reinforce and expand on the lessons they have learned so that they come back to class ready to go on to the next step. The games also help students to develop fluency in the basic math processes.

Fluency in the basic math facts and processes is an essential foundation for higher mathematics learning. In order for students to become fluent, they must practice in a variety of ways to thoroughly master addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Using math games keeps children engaged and interested so that math becomes an exciting adventure. In the hands of an experienced and well-informed teacher, math games are a very effective teaching tool for adaptive learning.
Jim Wheelin writes about many different educational topics for parents and kids. Recently he has been researching for a math game that can incorporate adaptive learning. In the future, Jim plans to test out an educational resource such the one offered at http://www.dreambox.com/adaptive-learning.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4769637035449336357.post-51406668927111983792011-11-10T18:45:00.000-08:002012-02-27T18:57:41.779-08:00Finding the Right Correspondence Courses
These days, correspondence courses exist in almost every discipline under the sun. It is never easy choosing one course over the other because you never know which one in the end will benefit your career more. However, if you make your choice based certain factors, then you will definitely end up with the best distance education program, which is the most important thing.

Here are the factors that you need to consider when searching for the right correspondence courses.

Accreditation
The best correspondence courses must be accredited. As a rule of thumb, it is important that you find out whether the institution offering a particular program that is certified to offer the courses that you are interested in. Find out the institutions offering the correspondence course, and then search for their accreditation information. With the number of distance education scams on the rise, it is important that you look up the accrediting body the institution claims to be accredited by in order to be sure that it is a recognized accrediting body. You may still opt to take courses from an institution that is not accredited; however, your courses will not count for anything but the completion certificate awarded to you.

Comprehensive
The best correspondence courses are those that are highly comprehensive. Be sure to look at the course's description before signing up. Look for information that shows the details of the course as well as the content of the course to be sure that it fits your career goals. It is important that you gain as much knowledge as possible from the course. General overview courses might be a good start. However, more comprehensive courses will give you an in depth knowledge about your subject of interest.

Transferable
Good distance education programs should come with transferable credits. To find such programs, consider looking around for institutions that you may be interested in attending in the future. Find out if such schools accept correspondence course's credits. If they do not, then the knowledge you acquire from your correspondence course may not count towards your diploma or degree program at all.

Incorporates communication from instructors
Good correspondence courses should include communication from your instructor. Courses that only come with a sheet of instructions without the instructor's information are never the best because should you fail to understand something, you may not be able to figure it out. Sign up for courses that include your instructor's contact information, websites or online study materials as well online access to your tutors.

Corresponding courses are increasingly popular because of the suppleness that comes with these programs. You can advance your studies and grow your career without having to drop your job. Better still, you can study at your own convenience, location and pace. However, you have to find the right correspondence program in order to enjoy these benefits and more. Be sure to keep these factors in mind in order to find a distance education program that suits your career goals and objectives.
rusulihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07685976118115630763noreply@blogger.com
